Before the facts were known, fertile imaginations attributed Great Zimbabwe to the Phoenicians or the ancient Greeks and connected them with the legendary mines of King Solomon. The walls, up to 35 feet tall and 18 feet thick at the bottom, were built in the twelfth century.
